What is Microbes' utility?

The NFT-as-fundraiser concept is fairly novel and we believe it provides the correct incentives to attract an investor type that DeSciWorld wants in the ecosystem. Flexible utility and aesthetic interest are a better way to recognise altruistic Early Adopters than equity, we think.

Aside from their pleasing visuals, the Microbes NFT will be your Early Adopter recognition certificate. By purchasing a Microbes NFT, users are contributing directly to the initial bootstrapping phase of DeSciWorld and will be recognised as the pioneering believers that supported the vision of Decentralising Science.

To gain your Early Adopter role on the DeSciWorld Discord, please head to any public channel and type the command <!join> to interact with CollabLand Bot. This bot, after connecting your web3 wallet that contains the Microbes NFT, will grant your Discord profile with the exclusive role!

How are Early Adopters rewarded?

For our Early Adopters: we’ve kept the upcoming uses of our Microbes NFT pretty quiet until now but let’s go through them here:

• Whitelist for Governance Token: The simplest and most important aspect of Microbes; holding this NFT will enable you to decide on the fate of DeSciWorld’s future governance decisions via Snapshot.

• Art Evolution: The original art of the Microbes NFT was created in house by our good friends at Imperial College London. Whilst we adore the art direction, the technical beauty embedded in the design and the researchers that contributed, our mission is to EVOLVE each of the sub-collections (i.e. Hidden Passenger) with brand new designs, from well-known NFT artists. Each new piece will only be available to the holder of the OG version of said collection via a burn+switch.

• Access to Special Events / Areas: As DeSciWorld grows into a bustling community, we will need areas to host our most ardent supporters in the physical world and in the metaverse. Whether there is a VIP chat, a special event at DeSci conferences, an airdrop, merch distributions (+++), the Microbes NFT will be the digital ticket needed to access.

• Redistribution Lottery events: More details to come on this in the coming weeks but tl;dr: DeSciWorld hopes to accmulate digital assets from all around the DeSci ecosystem and periodically redistrubute rewards to MICR token holders via lottery-style raffles.

• NFT Launchpad Preferential Access: The NFT Launchpad comes with a little more sigma thrown in when holding a Microbes NFT. Potential whitelisting, gallery curation decisions and more are benefits given to Microbes holders.

• Unlockable Content — Certain Microbes NFTs contain unlockable content. The content is hosted on IPFS and made available through our website, secured through Web3 wallet integration. The unlockable content may include additional research data, reports, even raw image files.

• Experimental Implementations — Creative mechanics such as lock-ups, burns or staking may also be employed to bring the worlds of DeFi and DeSci together.

Although there is no intrinsic garuntee of a return from the purchase of this NFT, there are mechanisms in place that go beyond the ownership of an image.
