Community is the heart of DeSciWorld, but our researchers are the brain. Research is the precursor of progress and without the wonderful scientific community doing what they love, we would be stuck in the stone ages. For most, this passion for research is intrinsic and not inherently related to financial rewards. Sadly, the same cannot be said for the institutions that uphold the research communities and effectively gatekeep the progress made.
Researchers that are passionate in a field that is not en vogue often struggle to source contributions towards their early-stage research. As most funding channels are formal and institutionalised, this can be the impossibly high first hurdle to progressing under-researched fields of science that, ultimately, many do not overcome.
At DeSciWorld we will never tell you as a researcher that your proposal cant happen. We hope to find a funding partner or solution to all requests sensibly presented to the community.
At present, we have exclusively PhD and PhD Candidate researchers contributing and we are to maintain high standards in perpetuity. Necessarily, the research must come from informed and serious individuals, especially in our infancy. Legitimacy comes slow and goes fast and it is essential that we take steps to ensure the quality of submissions that are taken on.
Does this mean that researchers must have a PhD? Of course not. The inclusive nature of DeSciWorld means any person with a strong character, idea and knowledge base can engage with the research process. We are aware of the gatekeeping nature of the qualification economy and, whilst a great indicator, they are not essential. Those interested need only apply.
